Hadith: A Brief Introduction

Hadith: A Brief Introduction
1.   Obeying the Prophet صَلىَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ and following him
Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Hashr 59:7
“And whatever the Messenger has given you – take it; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from it.”[1]
Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Ale Imran 3:31
“Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."”
2.   The best ‘Hadith’: The words of Allah
Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Az-Zumr 39:23
“Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration.”
3.   The ‘Hadith’ : The words of Allah’s Messenger
Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah At-Tahreem 66:3
“And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement.”
4.   ‘Al-Hadith’: In the words of Allah’s Messenger
He said, “O Allah's Messenger صَلىَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ! Who will be the luckiest person who will gain your intercession on the Day of Resurrection?” Allah's Messenger صَلىَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said: ‘O Abu Huraira! I have thought that none will ask me about it before you as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadith. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said sincerely from the bottom of his heart "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.”

“I heard the Prophet صَلىَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ saying, “A good vision is from Allah and a bad dream (hulm) is from the satan; so if one of you sees anything (in a dream which he dislikes, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and then it will never harm him. Abu Salama said: I used to see dreams weighing more heavily upon me than a mountain; but since I heard this hadith I don't care for it (its burden).”
